Laptop Buyer's Guide

To surf the ocean, you need a surfboard.  There are basically two kinds of surfboards: longboards and shortboards. Longboards are bigger surfboards built for greater stability but less speed and maneuverability while shortboards are smaller surfboards built for greater speed and maneuverability but less stability.

To surf the internet, you need an "internet surfboard," a computer.  Although the analogy isn't perfect, you can think of desktop computers as internet longboards and laptops as internet shortboards.

In this guide, we offer a breakdown of the different internet shortboard brands.  While most consumers might be familiar with names like Lenovo, Toshiba, Dell, and Hewlett-Packard, they are probably much less aware of the different series and names these companies use to classify their laptop offerings.

Dell

Hewlett-Packard

Lenovo
